object storage), and has plenty of storage to not have to put time into selectively culling historical versions once the disks start filling up. Still a good solution for someone who wants a quick setup, and doesn't need remote untrusted storage (e.g. There's better ways to do that per-file across snapshots, but that's more effort than just using something else anyway. but it really slowed it all down a lot checksumming the entire snapshot. I added checksumming to my own code that did this stuff. Although a lot of these scripts aren't doing checksums, so without that, you can't really be sure if your backups are 100% valid or not. The simplicity is nice, and works well for many use cases depending on the type of data (small files vs large files with minor modifications where block-level dedupe becomes more important), and depending on size. Yeah I've done this style of backups a bunch of times in the past using rsnapshot, and also 2 different systems I wrote myself that basically work the same way. Just make sure to tag the post with the flair and give a little background info/context. On Fridays we'll allow posts that don't normally fit in the usual data-hoarding theme, including posts that would usually be removed by rule 4: “No memes or 'look at this '”
